    THE CENTECH GROUP, Inc. (CENTECH®) is seeking a Field Services Technician I to serve on the Communications Focal Point (CFP) team in support of U.S. Air Force (AF) Advanced Research and Technology Enclave Management and Information Support (ARTEMIS-5) Services at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Rocket Lab.


    A qualified candidate may be selected as key personnel. This position will be located near Edwards Air Force Base, California and is contingent upon contract award.


    • Provide help desk and communications focal point services (Tier 0 and Tier 1) at a location at the AFRL Rocket Lab
    • Designate personnel for appointment as Property Custodians and Equipment Custodians (ECs)
    • Where possible, the contractor shall coordinate with the AFRL/ Information Technology Branch (RQOI) Enterprise Operations Center (EOC) to facilitate the automated inventory of network connected assets
    • Install, configure, deploy, maintain, and update networked information technology (IT) assets for contractor assigned Automatic Data Processing Equipment (ADPE) account(s)
    • Develop and maintain technical configuration instructions for supported devices
    • Perform pre-deployment operational testing for supported assets and verify pre-deployment operational testing was conducted for systems configured by another party
    • Document and complete post-deployment function test on the ticket for deployed assets prior to ticket closure
    • Connect, transport, and install systems at assigned field locations for network connected systems and related devices
    • Notify user for any system not repairable in the field
    • Notify Property Custodians and use hand receipts if needed when transporting IT assets between facilities
    • Maintain 'hot swappable' hardware assets, not high end work stations, for AF Network (AFNet) and SATURN networks
    • Report, track, and compile support agreements and firmware version levels for deployed networked IT assets
    • Dispose of hardware assets when end of life is reached and/or when determined by the government
    • Update affected databases, hand receipts, and tracking systems for de-provisioned assets
    • Coordinate, transfer, and update affected software allocation for de-provisioned assets
    • Remove, coordinate, clear, and sanitize sensitive information and related components for de-provisioned or reused assets
    • Enhance system performance for AFRL Rocket Lab enclaves and information systems
    • Deploy, maintain, and replace communication room hardware for the AFRL Rocket Lab
    • Test and install cable (fiber and copper) and components for telecommunications circuits prior to being placed in-service and complete remediation of removed components which includes testing and troubleshooting outside plant fiber which may be up to 30 miles in length
    • Tag and enter into a tracking database upon arrival/installation all telecommunications cable
    • Media type, connector types, cable color, length, and location shall be included in the tracking record for the cable
    • All pre-terminated cables shall be tagged and documented upon arrival
    • Coordinate, maintain, and file telecommunications cable documents, modifications including cable drawings, cable connection and utilization records, and cable test results for facilities where cable work is assigned
    • Design and implement a Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)-606-B compatible labeling schema in coordination with the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR)
    • Repair, install, and maintain computing facility support systems. These support systems include: cable tray, cable conduit, cable hooks/supports, raceway, telecommunication racks (free-standing and wall-mount), environmental monitoring
    • Coordinate vendor/supplier maintenance activities for systems which have active warranty/support agreements
    • Coordinate and/or replace field replaceable components such as drives, motherboards, batteries, bulbs/tubes, and power supplies for minor hardware repairs
    • Sustain uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), server rack mounted models, and communication room rack
    • Maintain a listing of key UPS data including, manufacturer, model calibration, date of installation, battery model, date of last battery replacement, and expiration date of serviceable life cycle
    • Maintain current vendor provided firmware and/or Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) updates for field deployed equipment Install, maintain, and support a variety of hardware based systems connected to on-site networks including audio and video distribution systems, public address systems, environmental monitoring equipment in communication rooms and facility access systems
    • Performs other duties as assigned (property or equipment custodian)


    • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of IT service center management experience
    • Experienced, successful support of activities of a service desk
    • Must possess a current Secret clearance as a minimum
    • Must have Help Desk Institute Support Center Manager (HDI-SCM) certification, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation v3 certification
    • Must have a broad, deep customer service orientation and professional demeanor
    • Must possess above average verbal and written communication skills
    • Must possess a general understanding of network architectures, client computing resources, and troubleshooting practices in a Microsoft Windows Operating System environment
    • Must possess a general understanding of and experience with client peripherals including PCs, blades, keyboards, video monitors, and mouse (KVMs), monitors, card readers, printers, and multi-function devices
    • Must have the ability to prepare, objectively review, and deliver technical presentations
    • Must have schedule flexibility to work varying hours (days and possibly occasional nights or weekends) when required by operational tempo
    • Must have an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance


    Desired skills:

    • Demonstrated experience interfacing with senior AF and/or DoD customers, as well as experience serving multiple DoD agencies, is highly desired
    • Remedy trouble ticket experience and skills is highly desired
    • Experience with AF Communications Focal Point (CFP) applications, communications, infrastructure, processes, procedures, instructions, and task orders is considered a significant plus
