THE CENTECH GROUP, Inc. (CENTECH®) is seeking a Senior Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Database Administrator (DBA) to serve in support of U.S. Air Force Cryptologic and Cyber Systems Division, Technical Operations and Infrastructure (TONTO) services contract. The person in this position will provide technical expertise in the analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance for existing and new, high-volume, data intensive systems. This position requires use of critical thinking and problem solving techniques to address complex database design issues, including data movement and replication among geographically dispersed components. The candidate must have strong administrative and database development skills.

This is a bid opportunity, contingent upon award and qualified candidates may be selected as key personnel. Work location is Lackland Air Force Base (AFB), Texas and requires active Top Secret (TS)/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance.


  • Perform assessments, surveys, engineering support, installations, replacements (scheduled and unscheduled), initial troubleshooting, ticket escalation, and outage resolution.
  • Maintain, operate and support all the virtual and physical hardware and software infrastructure of the Information Networks assets including but not limited to:
    • Microsoft Windows and Linux servers
    • Microsoft SQL Databases
  • Conduct proactive troubleshooting using system monitoring tools
    • Provide recommendations to the Program Management Office to improve the system’s reliability and performance
    • Implement approved recommendation
  • Provide on call and after hours support
  • Install and configure new SQL servers including failover
  • Develop stored procedures, triggers, functions, and maintenance of the databases including OS installation and patch management
  • Increase system performance including hardware, server configuration changes, or index/query changes
  • Document the database environment
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
  • Configure SQL Server monitoring tools and utilities to minimize false alarms
  • Deploy database change scripts provided by third-party vendors
  • Provide a list of the top 10 most resource-intensive queries on the server weekly and recommend ways to improve performance
  • Create users and assign permissions based on requirements
  • Link SQL servers and other databases such as Oracle, Access, CRM, and others as appropriate
  • Design a database backup and restore strategy
  • Document major changes to SQL servers
  • Mitigate vulnerabilities on SQL Servers, update Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M), and update System Security Plan in accordance to RMF
  • Configure and troubleshoot failover clustering in high availability operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of six (6) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must meet U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) 8570 certification eligibility requirements (e.g. Security+ CE or higher)
  • Candidate must possess a current TS/SCI clearance as a minimum
  • Required Skills

    • Two (2) years of experience with Windows Server and SQL administration
    • Four (4) years of experience with Microsoft SQL administration
    • Must possess above average verbal and written communication skills
    • Must have the ability to prepare, objectively review, and deliver technical presentations
    • Must have schedule flexibility to work varying hours (days and possibly occasional nights or weekends) when required by operational tempo

In addition to the required skills one must also have one or more of the following certifications:

  • Desired skills

    • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP): Database Administrator 2008 or more recent equivalent
    • Other Cisco / Microsoft certification (CCENT, CCNA, CCNP, MCSA, MCSE, etc.)

    • Understanding of database programming with SQL and vendor variants such as T-SQL and/or PL/SQL

    • Experience working with Data Interchange Formats such as JSON and XML
